Intention

This week’s Her Growth Collective topic is all about intentions.  Did you know that one definition of “intention” is “the healing process of a wound?”

After learning this, I went down a rabbit hole about wounds and the body's healing process.  I came across the following quote on CliniMed.com.

“It is critical to remember that wound healing is not linear and often wounds can progress both forwards and back through the phases depending upon intrinsic and extrinsic forces at work within the patient.”

Who knew that the physical process of wound healing was so similar to the emotional process?!?  Last year, I wrote about healing with intention and said “Healing with intention allows time to be a gift of restoration rather than repression.”

I have experienced the power of intentional healing with the gift of time. However, I have also learned that the healing process can get really messy, painful, and with a lot of highs and lows, especially due to various internal and external circumstances. And that’s ok; it’s normal. It’s part of the process.

Physical wounds have scars; they are an essential part of the healing process. Scarring is the body’s natural way of healing and replacing lost or damaged skin.  Perhaps, we can look to our scars as a reminder that they are there for our protection, helping to replace the parts of us that were lost or damaged when we were hurt.

If you are anything like me and have been wounded, it seems very tempting to simply forgive, forget and move on to avoid any scars or lasting affects of your pain; however, I think we are given scars for a reason. Perhaps if we skip the scarring process as we emotionally heal, we leave ourselves vulnerable to being hurt in the same way again.

If you have some wounds that have not healed properly, know you are worthy of proper healing. It’s not too late.  It will be painful but I have found that the most cleansing waters have been those of the tears that have poured when I have finally surrendered to the pain. As I heal, the scars remind me that I am healing with intention. I hope you can heal with intention, too.
